🏖️ Beaches

The best beaches in Sydney

Bondi, Manly, Coogee, Bronte, Shelly and Palm Beach — the surf, the ocean pools, the sheltered coves and the famous coastal walks. Here are the city's best stretches of sand for 2026.

Few cities on earth have beaches like Sydney's — and most are a short bus, train or ferry from the centre. The Eastern Suburbs hold Bondi, Bronte and Coogee and the famous coastal walk; the Northern Beaches run from Manly all the way up to Palm Beach.

All of them are free. Always swim between the red-and-yellow flags, where the surf lifesavers patrol.

Sydney's best beaches

Six favourites — from the famous to the sheltered, surf to snorkel.

Doing the beaches like a local

  • Swim between the flags. Sydney's surf can be powerful — the patrolled zone is the safe one.
  • Walk the coast. The Bondi-to-Coogee path is the classic; Spit-to-Manly is the harbour-side equal.
  • Take the ferry to Manly. The 30-minute ride from Circular Quay is half the fun and beats the traffic.
  • Go early on hot days. Parking near Bondi and Bronte fills fast — buses and trains-plus-bus are easier.
