Where to stay in Sydney

A harbour view across the cove, a design hotel in the heart of the CBD, a heritage stay out over the water, or the best-value rooms in town — here's where to base yourself in Sydney for 2026.

Where you stay shapes your Sydney. The Rocks and Circular Quay put the icons and the ferries on your doorstep; the CBD is central for shopping and transport; Darling Harbour suits families; and Bondi or Manly are best for a beach-first trip.

Booking a Sydney stay like a local

  • Pay for the view once. A harbour-facing room at The Rocks is a splurge worth doing for a night or two.
  • Stay central, travel easy. Sydney's trains and ferries are excellent — you don't need to stay at the beach to visit it.
  • Book early for summer. December–February and big events (NYE, Vivid, Mardi Gras) sell out and spike in price.
  • Take the train from the airport. Airport Link reaches the CBD in about 15 minutes — often quicker than a taxi.
